HEART PALPITATION: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

Heart palpitations are an uncomfortable sensation that is often misinterpreted as a heart attack

Sometimes it can feel like your heart has gone a little bit crazy, fluttering or feeling like it’s racing in your chest. You might even feel like you’re having a heart attack. But sit tight – these are likely just some common forms of heart palpitations (arrhythmia), and technically aren’t actually a sign that anything is wrong with your health. In fact, you could be experiencing them right now for reasons both harmless and surprising. Heart palpitations happen when your heart beats too quickly or too slowly; they’re typically harmless but can affect people differently based on what their “normal” heartbeat should be like. For example, if you normally have an irregular heartbeat but suddenly your heart starts beating regularly, then you most likely have experienced some form of the condition.

If you have heart palpitations, schedule a doctor’s appointment soon. In some cases, the irregular heartbeat may be sign of a more serious condition. If you also have dizziness, chest pain or shortness of breath, get emergency medical treatment immediately. Unless you have an underlying heart condition, you probably won’t need any treatment. Just do your best to avoid the triggers that cause your palpitations like stimulants such as caffeine and certain drugs but try meditation (let go of stress using breathing exercises), yoga (connect with nature and yourself at the same time), etc.
